Coming Back Home: Welcome Eric Carandang

We’re excited to announce Eric Carandang, PA-C, has returned to Gastroenterology Associates! Eric began his career with us in 2007 and quickly became a trusted provider and valued member of our team. In 2023, he and his family relocated to Texas, where he continued practicing gastroenterology while exploring new opportunities. Now back in the area, Eric has rejoined our practice, bringing with him even more experience and perspective. We recently sat down with Eric for a quick Q&A to learn more about his time in Texas, what brought him back, and what he’s most looking forward to in this next chapter at Gastroenterology Associates.

Q: What were you doing in Texas?

A: Work wise, I was working with 2 different GI groups. The main reason why we moved to Texas was to further my son’s soccer career. It is his dream to go pro! We figured Dallas, TX is considered the soccer capital of the United States and would be the perfect environment to help him achieve his goals of becoming pro.

Q: Was there anything you learned during your time in Texas that you plan to apply to your work here?

A: From the other 2 practices, the way that they treat certain diseases, ordering other labs to try and figure out what is going on with the patient. Those things that I picked up from other physicians I plan to bring over here. What I lacked in certain knowledge, I was able to pick up there and plan to bring back here to Gastroenterology Associates.

Q: What is the most important thing you want your patients to know about you?

A: That I genuinely care about my patients. I treat them as if they are my brother, father, sister or mother. With that philosophy I cannot go wrong. Just as long as they are willing to do their part, then I will do my part to get them better. Team work makes the dream work!

Q: What is your favorite thing about Gastroenterology Associates?

A: Absolutely has to be the love that I get from everyone. Also, it is family oriented. Coming back to familiar faces — I feel like I picked up right where I left off.

Q: What are you most excited about being back in the Upstate?

A: To be honest with you, coming back to this practice. I lived here for 38 years and moving to Dallas was a refreshing experience. If I could bring this practice to Dallas — that would be the icing on the cake — but you can’t have everything you want in life. Everything happens for a reason. But my main reason is to come back to this practice because they definitely set the bar a lot higher than what I experienced with the last two practices. It is great to be back!
