Originally from the Memphis, Tennessee area, Dr. Kovalic received his undergraduate degree from Rhodes College. He received his medical degree from University of Tennessee – College of Medicine in Memphis, TN. He then completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Wake Forest Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He went on to complete his fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell in Queens, New York, serving as Chief Fellow.
Dr. Kovalic is interested in all facets of gastroenterology and hepatology, but has a particular interest in colorectal cancer prevention, gastroesophageal reflux disease, Barrett’s esophagus and hepatobiliary diseases. He is also a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases.
Dr. Kovalic and his wife, Olivia, have two children. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time outdoors, traveling and playing basketball.
