Dr. Horton is a native of Powdersville, South Carolina. He earned his undergraduate degree from the College of Charleston in Biology and attended USC School of Medicine in Greenville for his medical degree. USC is where he first developed clinical and research interests in gastroenterology. In 2017 he moved to Durham, NC to complete residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Duke University Health System. During his fellowship he was appointed a medical instructor with the Department of Medicine at Duke University Hospital.
Dr. Horton enjoys all aspects of gastroenterology, with special interests in esophageal disorders such as acid reflux, Barrett’s esophagus, eosinophilic esophagitis, and swallowing disorders. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He is also a member of the American Gastroenterology Association, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American College of Gastroenterology, South Carolina Gastroenterology Association, and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases.
In his spare time Dr. Horton enjoys golfing, attending church, and spending time with his friends and family.
