Dr. Yarborough was encouraged to become a physician by his father who steered him into the medical field. After graduating from The Citadel, he attended the Medical University of South Carolina. He completed his residency at Greenville Memorial Hospital in 1987. He left the Greenville area for a 2-year fellowship at Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans. He returned to the Greenville area and joined Gastroenterology Associates in 1989.
Dr. Yarborough is board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He is a member of the Greenville County Medical Society, the American College of Gastroenterology, South Carolina Gastroenterology Association and South Carolina Medical Association.
Dr. Yarborough’s patient care philosophy is to help patients understand and manage their disease even when there may not be a permanent fix. He chose to specialize in Gastroenterology because he enjoyed the procedure aspect of patient care. He has a special interest in biliary therapeutics and colon cancer prevention. He has also developed expertise in esophageal cancer prevention with the newer ablation technology.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Yarborough is active in teaching medical students, medical residents, and other students in related medical fields.
