Dr. Richard E. Zander

Dr. Zander received his undergraduate degree from the Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. He then moved his education to the Louisiana State University Medical Center, where he completed his Doctor of Medicine degree. He went on to complete six years of training at the University of Alabama, finishing up his internship, residency, and fellowship in gastroenterology before moving to the Greenville area in 1980. Dr. Zander states he chose the area after being very impressed by the progressiveness and quality of the medical community and hospital systems. He was also taken in by the quality of life in the Upstate.

Dr. Zander is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology. He is currently a member of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Greenville County Medical Society, South Carolina Gastroenterology Association, South Carolina Medical Association, and the American Gastroenterological Association.

Dr. Zander loves baseball, but his favorite pastime is spending as much time as possible with his grandchildren and family. However, being from New Orleans, he still enjoys good music, the outdoors (especially fishing and walking), and good food.

As Dr. Zander approaches the last phase of his career, he states what he cherishes most are the long term relationships he has had with many of his patients and their families, some of which he has known for over 30 years. He is also finds satisfaction in the available opportunities to mentor young physicians.
