When it comes to your liver health, your doctors want to provide the best possible care. The liver is responsible for performing many functions that are critical to your health. Because liver disease is reversible if caught early enough, Gastroenterology Associates offers Echosens’ FibroScan®, an FDA-cleared technology for the diagnosis and monitoring of adult patients as part of an overall evaluation of liver health.
FibroScan® takes only 10 minutes, is non-invasive and completely painless:
- The patients lie comfortably on an exam table
- The medical professional applies a water-based gel on the patient’s skin and places the FibroScan® probe on the right side of the ribcage
- The medical professional then takes 10 quick, painless measurements
- Results are immediate for the physician to interpret
FibroScan® examinations are not indicated for use on individuals who have an implantable electronic device, such as a pacemaker.
What to Expect
Preparation for the Procedure
You will need to fast for 3 hours prior. You can take a small sip of water to take their daily required medications, but we ask you hold any vitamins and supplements until after.
Day of Procedure
Comfortable clothes where you can lay on a bed and move your arms above your head. We will need to be able to scan your ribcage area.
- No preparation is required other than fasting.
- BE AWARE: You will lay entirely flat (we cannot prop you up with a pillow or raise the head of the bed for this exam).
After the Procedure
Your results will be reviewed by your ordering provider and you will be notified either by phone or portal.
