Anthony Horton, MD, is a board-certified gastroenterologist and physician partner at Gastroenterology Associates in Greenville, South Carolina. He provides comprehensive care for digestive disorders with particular clinical interests in diseases of the esophagus and complex functional gastrointestinal conditions.

Dr. Horton’s areas of particular interest include gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), difficulty swallowing (dysphagia), Barrett’s esophagus, eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), esophageal motility disorders, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), and chronic symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea and constipation.

A native of Powdersville, South Carolina, Dr. Horton completed both his Internal Medicine residency and Gastroenterology and Hepatology fellowship at Duke University Health System. His research has included reflux and esophageal motility disorders.

Dr. Horton takes a practical, evidence-based and patient-centered approach to digestive health. He has a particular interest in helping patients understand complex or persistent symptoms and in translating evolving areas of gastrointestinal research—including the gut microbiome—into useful clinical guidance while distinguishing established evidence from emerging science.

In his spare time Dr. Horton enjoys golfing, attending church, and spending time with his friends and family.
