Patients at Gastroenterology Associates can now benefit from enhanced detection during colonoscopy with the GI Genius™ intelligent endoscopy system from Medtronic. The GI Genius™ system uses artificial intelligence (AI) to assist physicians by identifying potential polyps in real time—providing an extra layer of support during every procedure.¹
“Early detection is everything when it comes to colorectal cancer prevention,” said Dr. Anthony Horton, physician partner at Gastroenterology Associates. “The addition of GI Genius has quickly become a valuable tool in our colonoscopies, providing us an added layer of confidence in real-time.”
Every year, more than 150,000 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with colorectal cancer.² Early detection through screening colonoscopy can save lives.³ However, some precancerous polyps can be small, flat, and difficult to see—even for experienced physicians.
The GI Genius™ intelligent endoscopy system monitors the colonoscopy in real time and alerts physicians to lesions, including small, flat polyps that can easily be missed. Some polyps can be hard to spot. The GI Genius™ system reduces the chance of missed polyps by up to 50%.⁴ “GI Genius has strengthened our polyp detection without slowing us down,” added Horton.
“What we’ve seen with GI Genius so far has been compelling enough to expand it organization-wide,” remarked Gastroenterology Associates Executive Director, John Hickey. “We’re currently the only GI group in the Upstate of SC utilizing this technology as well as hosting largest GI Genius footprint anywhere in South Carolina!”
